Hello everyone,
Major League Baseball announced earlier this week a new initiative which involves veterans returning from the War in Iraq. Since the announcement I’ve been working with MLB officials in New York to try to get Danny Cox involved as a spokesperson for this new venture. (That is still in the works)
Meanwhile, I called the St.Louis Cardinals new Community Relations guy to see how the Redbirds are going to announce this July 4th (National program announcement execution date). They did not have anything planned for July 4th (the young man filling in is doing all he can but management hasn’t replaced the previous Comm. Relations Dir. Marty Hendin after he died this past winter)
So he asked me if I had any ideas? (Never ask me that question if you don’t want an answer!)
I told him how MLB is uniquely woven into the fabric of our Military Arm Forces. I told him I would email him after some thought.
The attachment is the script I wrote for examples of THREE very Unique ways our Military is tied to MLBaseall. They are also exclusive to the Cardinals.
The guy in Comm. Relations email back and said “this is awesome! Can you pull it off?” I told him I would work on it (3 days!) and late Friday night, everyone was confirmed so I went over and ask Dad to be a part of it.
Yes, it’s true! Dad will be at home plate prior to the Cardinals- Cubs game on the very night of our nations Independence Celebration. Dad will represent the Greatest Generation who preserved Liberty, Freedom & Life.
Not only will it be a packed house at the new Busch Stadium, its one of the two biggest rivalries in Baseball (Red Sox-Yankees) but it will be Dad’s first visit to his third Busch Stadium (Sportsman’s/Busch, Busch Stadium, new Busch). I am arranging a golf cart for Dad, Rocky’s Dad to get around. Vern Cox is driving up from Warner Robbins, AFB in Georgia.
For those of you out of town, the game may be televised on WGN-TV Chicago, or espn, I’m not certain yet. Danny Cox said it’s a dream come true, to represent baseball, military and be with his dad at home plate before a Cardinals-Cubs game…then he said, no, you can’t even dream this could ever happen!
Rocky is very, very excited too. Imagine the horror he endured yet will be right there with his father.
I told the young guy in Community Relations to click and drag my script and tell everyone he wrote it. The Cardinals wouldn’t allow a MLB Player-Agent to write this stuff for them! He said ‘really?” I told him YES, its so much more important that these three unique stories be told than for anyone to care who’s idea it was.
Please read the attachment. The Cardinals have the right to shorten the script anyway they want to meet time restraints. Pretty cool for Dad, Rocky and Danny and I think, important for fans to be reminded, learn & see these stories first hand!
Stay tuned….

Continued success,
Lou Tevlin

Mary,

What a wonderful recap of a fantastic evening. I’m so thrilled you & Mark were right there. Amy had total access-thanks! I’m also glad the gentleman in the TV truck gave you authority to come in. I didn’t have that authority & sensed we were pushing it to even visit at that exact time because they were in full blown production to the open of the show/ballgame. That was really cool and the guys treated Dad so well & respectful. Thanks Amy for taking pictures---priceless.

Continued success,
Lou Tevlin
